Have MASH (Metabolic Associated Steatotic Hepatitis), or its broader category MASLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease) – and many may not even know it.

Tampa Bay Medical Research uses FibroScan test as an alternative to liver biopsy to detect and stage Fatty Liver Disease. FibroScan is an ultrasound-based imaging tool that captures liver stiffness and scarring caused by fatty deposits in the liver.

FibroScan is a painless, non-invasive procedure that requires no sedation and can be completed in just a few minutes. It enables our providers to screen patients for Fatty Liver Disease during their visit.

What should I expect from my FREE Fibroscan Appointment at Tampa Bay Medical Research?

FIBROSCAN is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to diagnose liver disease
  • Fasting

With the exception of drinking small sips of water – at least 3 hours prior to your appointment is required to get an accurate reading.

  • The use of a non-invasive probe

A non-invasive probe will press against the skin near your rib cage and will measure a 3 cm3 volume of liver tissue. The examination volume of the Fibroscan is 100 times the size of a typical liver biopsy and minimizes sampling error.

  • Results and Findings

Our provider will review and discuss the results of your scan with you during your visit.
